It was in 1922, in France, that La Redoute mail order first appeared. Its founder, Charles Pollet also owned wool mills, and some of the first products sold used wool from his other business. La Redoute suffered, like many other businesses, during the Second World War, but flourished in the years afterwards. However, by 1962, the
catalogue contained over 40,000 items. In 1994 the brand was acquired by Pinault-Printemps S.A, and in 1999 the Redoute group was re-branded as Redcats, and then as the Redcats group in 2006. The La Redoute brand has only been operational in the UK since the mid 1990s.
The Internet is now a very important channel for La Redoute, as well as for many other
catalogue retailers. However, the brand is still founded on the well established seasonal catalogues for Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter, each of which is timed to present all the latest fashions for the forthcoming season.

"La Redoute have a good choice of clothes and they tend to stand out from the crowd compared to some other websites I have used. I am usually happy with my orders, but on the rare occasions that I received an item that didn't fit me, La Redoute have always organised for a courier to collect, free of charge."
