Toys R Us started out in Washington D.C., USA in 1948 as a baby furniture retailer venture, Children's Supermart, the creation of Charles Lazarus. The focus of the business developed and toys became an integral part of the product offer, more as an afterthought following customer feedback, and by 1957 the Toys R Us brand was born.
The business continued to go from strength to strength, and expansion was particularly strong during the 1980s, when the business spread to overseas territories, including the United Kingdom, ensuring that brand became recognised on a global scale. There are now 75 stores in the UK, and the business also operates a successful website, as well as selling via mail order catalogues.

Standard delivery, taking up to four working days, costs £4.95, but there are also options to pay a little extra (up to £9.95) for next working day, named day, or Saturday deliveries. Incorrect or unwanted items can be returned free of charge, provided this is notified within seven days of delivery.
